The Town of Frisco is excited to host its 3rd free Repair Fair on Saturday, April 13, 2024 from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm at the Frisco Adventure Park Day Lodge. Town of Frisco staff will be on site to patch holes and repair minor tears in outdoor equipment such as coats, tents, and backpacks. Rebel Sports will have a bike mechanic available for simple bicycle repairs. New this year, mountainFLOW eco-wax will be offering storage wax applications for skis and snowboards, and Town staff will be sharpening machetes, hatchets, and axes. There will also be a drop-off for climbing or approach shoes that need new soles. Shoes will be shipped to Rock and Resole for repair, and a small fee will be associated with this service. Finally, High Rhodes Records will be providing free restringing of any instruments at their shop located at 285 E Main Street in Frisco.
The Town of Frisco’s Repair Fair was launched in 2022 by the Town’s employee led sustainability committee, the Green Team. The event was inspired by existing programs developed by several outdoor gear manufacturers that facilitate the repair, reuse, resale, and recycling of used gear.
“We are extremely excited to host the first spring gear repair fair and expand our offerings. Last year we had a successful turn out, with many outdoor items getting repaired so they were functional again,” stated Blair Miller, Frisco’s Museum Coordinator and Green Team member.
According to the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), 146.1 million tons of solid waste ended up in landfills across the country in 2018, with materials most commonly used in outdoor equipment, such as plastics, leather and textiles, comprising over 29% of that waste.
The Green Team asks that each attendee only bring one (clean) piece of equipment for repair and to register items in advance so they can plan ahead. Non-alcoholic beverages and snacks will also be supplied.
