2021 Colorado BBQ Challenge
Due to ongoing public health orders and conditions, the Town of Frisco has made the decision to cancel the 2021 Colorado BBQ Challenge, originally scheduled for June 17-19. After postponing and then cancelling the event in 2020 due the pandemic, the Town of Frisco had hoped that this event could be held in 2021 to honor what is now a 28-year-old tradition. Current public health orders allow for outdoor events with a maximum of 175 participants, and the next phase of public health orders moves that maximum attendance to 250 attendees. While case data is improving and vaccination rates are rising, it has become clear that there is no realistic way to drastically reduce BBQ event attendance in order to respect and protect the public’s health during this popular event, which typically draws 12,000-14,000 attendees over two days.
What is the Whiskey Tour?
The Whiskey Tour is all about unlocking the secrets of some delicious behind the scenes BBQ, while tasting award winning whiskey from the Breckenridge Distillery. This is a sell out each year because of stellar goodie bags (there’s a bottle of whiskey and commemorative glass in there) and lots of behind the scenes BBQ nibbles and tips. The Whiskey Tour is a collaboration between the Breckenridge Distillery, the Colorado BBQ Challenge and the Rocky Mountain BBQ Association, and it begins in the Frisco Historic Park’s Log Chapel in the heart of historic Frisco. Every year the Tour focuses on a different aspect of BBQing, with usable tips and tricks for competing BBQers.
Whiskey Tour Schedule
Guest check in begins
Guests nosh on appetizers including BBQ and reps from Breckenridge Distillery and competitors from the Colorado BBQ Challenge provide some background on the night’s focused topic.
Guests are taken on a behind the scenes tour on 3rd Avenue where non-selling competitors explore that night’s topic with demonstrations and more in depth discussions. During this time, guests are served Breckenridge Distillery Bourbon.
Guests return to the Log Chapel to pick up their goody bags, and perhaps, enjoy a few more nibbles.
Guests return to the festival for more great BBQ and music.
Tickets are limited and $100 per person. Tickets sales TBA.
