Fishing

There is nothing like the tug of your line and the anticipation of netting the fish of a lifetime. Bait fishing, fly fishing, ice fishing, spin rods, fly rods, spey rods – no matter your method, Frisco is the hub for fishing in the Rocky Mountains.

Fishing licenses are required for anyone fishing or casting the rod over the age of 15. Licenses are available for purchase at the Frisco Bay Marina, the local Walmart, or Trouts Fly Fishing.

Fly Fishing

Gold Metal Waters

Gold Metal waters are designated by the Colorado Wildlife Commission as providing great spots to catch those large trout. These waters are defined as being able to produce 60 pounds of trout per acre, and at least twelve 14″ or larger trout per acre.

Guiding Outfitters in Frisco and Summit County service the following Gold Medal waters:

  • Blue River
  • Colorado River
  • Gore Creek
  • Arkansas River
  • Frying Pan River

For information on guiding and retail shops, visit Trouts Fly Fishing at 309 B Main Street, Frisco.

Bait Fishing

Dillon Reservoir provides good fishing for rainbow and brown trout, kokanee salmon, and arctic char. Meadow Creek Park is another stocked body of water in Frisco – a great place to teach kiddos the ropes!

Early most winter mornings one can find the brave and determined ice fisherman on one of the “arms” of Dillon Reservoir: the Snake River arm in Summit Cove, the Blue River arm at Farmer’s Corner or just off-shore of the outdoor amphitheater in Dillon.
