Summit County Bike to Work…or Wherever Day

Sep 22, 2020 7:00am

About Bike To Work Day

The Town of Frisco is proud to sponsor Summit County and the Physical Activity and Nutrition Team of the Summit (PANTS) for the 2020 Bike to Work Day on Tuesday, Sept 22 from 7:00-10:00am.

This year’s Bike to Work Day has been postponed from its typical June date in response to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

The event is now going forward with a focus on well-being and connection. Event partners will be highlighting how bikes unite and benefit physical and mental health.

Or Bike to Wherever

Bike to Work Day has been modified to Bike to WHEREVER Day to include telecommuters, retirees, visitors, and all bicycle enthusiasts!

As many members of the community are currently working from home, participants are invited to ride their bike for any reason – commute, exercise, get some fresh air, or to go be social,  and can receive a free light breakfast, get simple bike tune-ups by local bike mechanics and participate in virtual bike contests.

A Celebration of Bikes

Bicycle riders can take advantage of free light breakfast, virtual bike contests and a mini job fair. Each station will have:

  • Mechanics from local bike shops
  • Pre-packed breakfast and coffee/juice provided by sponsors listed below
  • Coloring Contest
  • Bike bingo
  • List of job opportunities
  • BTWD Buff for Sale

Visit your nearest station or bike to all six for a chance to win raffle prizes!

Where

Six pit-stops are spaced throughout Summit County and available from 7:00-10:00am at the following locations:

  • Silverthorne – Pavilion
  • Dillon – Behind the Amphitheater on the Bike Path
  • Frisco -Historic Park on Main Street
  • Frisco – Upper Level of County Commons
  • Breckenridge – Blue River Plaza
  • Summit Cove – Intersection of Swan Mountain Road and Recpath

Bike and COVID-19 Safety

To safely celebrate cycling and other mobility modes this year by following the Summit County Public Health Order all participants must:

  • Wear a mask at the pit-stops
  • Physically distance
  • Use the hand sanitizing station at each pit-stop.

To make bike commuting easy and safe, Summit County Open Space & Trails offers the following tips:

  • Pack your bag of work clothes and other items you’ll need the night before. This minimizes prep time and logistical details on the morning of your commute.
  • Ensure your bicycle is safe to ride (air in the tires, brakes working, chain lubed, etc.)
  • Contact the Summit County Open Space & Trails Department ahead of time if you need assistance planning a bicycle route to your workplace or other destination.
  • Check the weather forecast the night before so you can make the right clothing and gear choices; early morning bike rides at high elevations may require a warm outer layer and gloves. Be prepared for afternoon showers.
  • Don’t forget your helmet!
