Jack Cloonan grew up on the south side of Chicago, where he learned traditional Irish music by way of his grandfather. Though accordion was his first instrument at the age of seven, he quickly moved on to fiddle, and eventually tenor banjo, mandolin, guitar, piano, and drums. Growing up in pubs with Irish sessions happening every night of the week, Cloonan learned thousands of fiddle tunes over the years, and he later took his midwest bluegrass and Irish music influences and fused them with some up-beat and original, disco-esque jams. He subsequently forged his own genre, “Discograss”- an up-beat, rock and disco infused style of bluegrass that he would later create a 4-piece band around. The Jack Cloonan Band packs a punch with guitar, banjo, mandolin, keyboard and drums.
