Come join us to hear the story beneath the Colorado Ski Industry after you ski Copper’s Opening Day. Learn more about the ski areas that started it all and early ski culture and how it transformed into what it is today. Caryn and Peter Boddie will be discussing their newest book, The Lost Ski Areas of Colorado, in this special edition après ski lecture.
Peter and Caryn Boddie are the coauthors of two books for The History Press, which detail the story beneath the story of Colorado’s ski industry. They are also the coauthors of the original Hiker’s Guide to Colorado, Hiking Colorado and Hiking Colorado II, which sold over 100,000 copies statewide.
The couple began research for the books by looking at the Ski Country USA poster, after being asked by the publisher to undertake the project. Their research expanded as they talked to some lost area fanatics and then discovered, and began working with, historians at the small history museums across Colorado.
The Boddies consider the books on the lost ski areas of Colorado to be a “give back” of sorts to the state they love for all the good times they’ve had skiing there. They hope the books are fun and give everyday folks some good information on the everyday folks who brought the ski culture to Colorado originally.
