MakeFrisco Ice Exhibit Returns to the Frisco Nordic Center this Saturday

The MakeFrisco community arts group is bringing light to the winter season starting on February 26 with FrozenFrisco, an ice luminary display at the Frisco Nordic Center, in order to bring some creativity and continued hope to the winter season and engage the community through public art. The community is invited to an opening reception from 5:00 – 6:30 pm on February 26, and the exhibit will also serve a dual purpose to kick off that evening’s ticketed event, Summit Nordic Ski Club’s Eat, Ski, Be Merry, which is a candlelit ski from bonfire to bonfire with snacks, desserts, and beverages along the way.

MakeFrisco is returning to the Frisco Nordic Center with this community art project, where this exhibit was first launched in February 2020. This outdoor exhibit will include a frozen “living room” with ice seating and tables and the work of community artists who will express their own singular take on ice as a medium. The exhibit will remain as long as weather conditions allow.

MakeFrisco is a collection of artists, craftsmen, and art-minded community members, that includes painters, a photographer, a milliner, a coffee roaster, a landscape architect, musicians, a guitar maker, a carpenter, sculptors, and illustrators — all based in Frisco. This group has a mission of bringing the community together around art, specifically by implementing three concepts that support this intention: community art projects, art and exhibit spaces, and commissioned art.

The MakeFrisco community arts group was born out of $25,000 in seed money dedicated in the 2020 Town of Frisco budget to support public art. For 2022, Frisco Town Council has initiated a five-year arts and culture strategic plan with the intention of mapping out Frisco’s own art and culture future, which will include the eventual formation of an arts council. Public art aligns with Town Council’s strategic goals for an inclusive community and a thriving economy because art not only fosters a community’s unique character and creates economic vitality, but because it can distinctively honor local artists, foster the community’s collective imagination, and respect a community’s heritage and culture.
