As of March 24, trails in the Frisco Peninsula Recreation Area are largely dry and open to walkers, runners, and cyclists. In addition, the U.S. Forest Service and Town of Frisco have announced updates to the 2026 Summer Operations Plan regarding equestrian access. Beginning April 15, 2026, horses will be permitted only on Crown Point Road and Jody’s Nugget Trail, which are located in the Frisco Peninsula Recreation Area.
Equestrian Usage Changes
This change to equestrian usage is intended to preserve equestrian access in the area, while improving safety for all trail users.
Due to increasing visitation and the volume of pedestrians, runners, and cyclists, single-track trails within the Peninsula Recreation Area are no longer considered a safe environment for horses and riders. Limiting equestrian use to wider trails helps reduce user conflicts and supports a safer experience for everyone.
Horses and riders are welcome on:
- Crown Point Road (30-foot-wide trail)
- Jody’s Nugget Trail (20-foot-wide trail)
Caring for Trails and Spring Trail Maintenance Closures
Users are asked to observe and adapt to changing conditions, as there are a few remaining snow patches, and precipitation is still expected into the spring. Trail users are urged to stay on the trail and walk or ride through snow piles to avoid widening trails and refrain from accessing trails when there are muddy conditions.
Cyclists should note that the Sky Pilot trail is undergoing maintenance, and some segments will be closed throughout March and April. All trail closures will be signed, and closures should be respected.
The Town of Frisco and U.S. Forest Service appreciate the community’s cooperation during mud season and as these updates are implemented. Trail users are encouraged to check conditions before heading out and to help protect the trail system by avoiding muddy routes.
