Frisco Historic Park & Museum Hosts Night at the Museum featuring Local Author Joe Kramarsic

On Friday, August 8, 2025 from 5:00 pm to 7:30 pm, the Frisco Historic Park and Museum invites the community to a Night at the Museum, featuring local author and historian, Joe Kramarsic, as he launches his new book High Above Frisco: A History of the Naming, Importance, and Climbing of Frisco’s Scenic Mountains. Joe Kramarsic will give a short talk, sharing insights from his book, which explores Frisco’s past through the lens of the 21 mountains that surround the town. The talk will be followed by a reception in the Historic Park gazebo with live music from Moonstone Quill, free food, and drinks available for purchase from a local nonprofit. The Frisco Historic Park and Museum will be selling copies of the newly published book.

About the Author

Joseph Kramarsic arrived in Summit County in 1974, not for skiing but to work at the Climax mine until it shutdown in 1983. After working in a few other mines, he began a thirty-one-year career in highway maintenance with the Colorado Department of Transportation, retiring in 2021. Twenty-four of those years were spent on the Loveland Pass patrol. He found his passion in the mountains of Summit County and Colorado and beyond, where he hikes, climbs, and researches the history of the mountains he explores. This has led him to self-publish three reference books on Colorado mountaineering and climbing and four guidebooks on the Colorado mountain ranges, Gore Range, Elkhead Mountains, Rabbit Ears Range, and the Park Range. High Above Frisco: A History of the Naming, Importance, and Climbing of Frisco’s Scenic Mountains is his eighth book.

About the Book

Explore the history of Frisco, Colorado, from the vantage point of twenty-one mountains surrounding the town. While Frisco’s history began with the Ute, the Town was founded in 1879 along the banks of the Tenmile Creek by hardy silver miners who made their way across the mountain passes of Summit County and into the high country of Frisco. As Frisco grew, recreationists realized the backcountry opportunities of climbing these towering summits. This book invites readers to learn about the discoveries, triumphs, tragedies, rivalries, and conflicts of the characters who set out to create a life high above Frisco. Each chapter addresses a specific mountain, highlighting the important and not-to-be-forgotten history that made Frisco the modern mountain town it is today.

Copies of High Above Frisco: A History of the Naming, Importance, and Climbing of Frisco’s Scenic Mountains can be purchased at the Frisco Historic Park and Museum gift shop.
