Frisco wishes you “Good Cheer” with a warm cup of Wassail!
The Town of Frisco wants you to remember a time when holiday shopping was joyful, instead of being stressful and riddled with fret. That’s why the town is hosting Wassail Days December 8-16, 2012. When you celebrate Wassail Days in Frisco, you’ll experience holiday shopping as it should be: relaxed, stress-free, infused with the holiday spirit, and warmed by a steaming mug of spiced Wassail cupped in your hands.
Wassail is a generations-old holiday tradition that by most accounts, originated in England and was simply a wish “to be in good health and fortune.” Although, in England many people celebrated with Wassail in hopes of a good apple harvest. There are many Wassail traditions throughout the world; but in the Town of Frisco, Wassail Days is an alternative holiday experience for people looking for unique shopping and a slowed down version of holiday celebrations.
To kick off Wassail Days on Dec. 8, release your inner Santa with the Santa Dash for Cash. The costumed run over 6 blocks will give you a little extra money to do your holiday shopping and is sure to put you in the holiday spirit. Complete your holiday merriment and joins us for the tree lighting at 4:30pm and the Best in the West Chili Contest at 5:00 pm. A full schedule of events includes Santa’s Calling, Wassail Night at the Museum, Free Tubing and new this year the Frisco Adventure Park Birthday Bash. You can also take pictures with Santa, or grab the family and capture that holiday card moment at the Sleigh or in the Wassail caroler cut out. Perhaps the best part, Frisco’s participating retailers and restaurants along Main Street and Summit Blvd. will serve their very own Wassail to shoppers throughout the day and every day through Dec.16.
Shoppers can buy a commemorative Wassail mug from participating merchants and at the Frisco/Copper Information Center located at 3rd and Main. Take your mug from shop to shop and taste each merchant’s interpretation of Wassail; at the end of your shopping, vote for your favorite Wassail. “After 4 years of Frisco Wassail Days the merchants have become very competitive with their Wassail recipes, some add unique spices, others drizzle their spoons with carmel,” stated Suzanne Lifgren, Marketing Director for the Town, “I just love using this event as an excuse to see all the latest shops in Frisco and find gifts that are more than a Gap Sweater.” Wassail Days are sure to be a holiday shopping experience like none other. You can find unique Colorado gifts such as cozy mountain décor and furnishings, outdoor equipment and sporting goods, antiques, art such as photography, pottery and blown glass, and children’s gifts, including wooden toys to spark the imagination.
