After 7 months of restoration the Frisco Historic Park and Museum is proud to open the Annie Ruth House. Damaged by an arsonist in June of 2011, the Annie Ruth house has been fully restored with some of its original artifacts. A ribbon cutting ceremony followed by a cupcake and champagne toast at 3 pm, on March 3, 2012 will celebrate the restoration in conjunction with Women’s History month.

“The Annie Ruth house features a women’s exhibit with different artifacts and women’s fashion from the 1900’s; and the timing for the re-opening could not be more perfect.” stated Simone Belz the Historic Park Manager. March was officially adopted as Women’s history month back in 1987. Every year Women’s History month honors the extraordinary achievements of American women. This year’s theme is “Women’s Education — Women’s Empowerment”. It focuses on the struggle women have faced for the equal opportunity to learn and how education has helped change the role of women over time.

Exhibits at the Annie Ruth House also highlight specific women who made a difference in Frisco, such as interesting and respected personalities like Susan Badger, Jane Thomas, Susie Thompson and Helen Foote.

An excerpt from the exhibit:

Women in Frisco have always made an impact. A great example of this occurred in 1913 when the Frisco Town Council dissolved. For three years, no council meetings were held. The prosperity of the town began to diminish; mines were closing, people were moving away and the electricity was cut off! Frisco was becoming a ghost town!

…….That is until Frisco’s women stepped in! Several ladies gathered together, held an election, voted in an all female board and saved the town! You see, this was possible because women inColoradowere granted the right to vote in 1900, way ahead of the rest of the country!

Led by Florence Huter the elected Mayor, the all female board tackled Frisco’s debts and returned the town to a respectable financial position. Eventually, the men of Frisco came back to run the town. But, there’s no telling what would be of this little town without the organization and concern of its early women!

The Annie Ruth Ribbon cutting ceremony will take place Saturday, March 3, 2012 at 3 pm, the same day as the Frisco Tubbs Romp To Stomp Out Breast Cancer. For more information on the Annie Ruth House and Saturday’s events, please visit www.townoffrisco.com.

Jan. 12, 2012 – To connect the mining history of the past with the Nordic traditions of the present, Frisco is celebrating the 42nd anniversary of its Gold Rush weekend. Frisco, Colorado’s Main Street of the Rockies was once the center of Colorado’s mining-boom and the convergence of two major railroads and stagecoach routes. At more than 9,000 feet, Frisco still values its rich mining history while being surrounded by some of the best ski resorts Colorado has to offer.

Starting Friday, Feb 3 through Sunday Feb. 5, the Town of Frisco will celebrate Gold Rush weekend with events for the entire family, including historic lectures, museum movie night, a 5K moonlight snowshoe race, a huge bonfire, fireworks, and Nordic races.

Frisco’s Gold Rush weekend activities celebrate the Town’s mining history while offering something for the Nordic lovers of today. Saturday’s events are all about commemoration and celebration, while Sunday is centered on Nordic racing and Tubbs snowshoeing.

On Saturday, Spontaneous Combustion, the seventh annual lighting of the community bonfire, is a place for citizens to gather and recognize Frisco’s unique atmosphere. The Gold Rush Fireworks display tops off the evening’s festivities. The Summit Nordic Ski Club will sell refreshments at the event, with all proceeds benefiting the team’s annual activities.

The Nordic races on Sunday are Colorado’s oldest citizens’ cross-country races and are expected to bring some of the country’s top Nordic and snowshoe competitors. Anyone can register and participate in the Nordic races. Racers can also register at www.friscogoldrush.com or pick up registration forms at the Nordic Center or Frisco Town Hall.
